Ending the night with the thought provoking screening of #VisualizingLoss and discussion with parent filmmakers and researchers @sarahlizabaumann and
@jessgrifburke. Grief and loss are complex evolving journeys.#BBPgh24.
Thank you to the families who shared their stories of grief and loss after losing a child to serious illness. The stories were beautiful, raw, and heartbreaking, but so important to opening up discussions to help other family caregivers facing loss. Thank you. #BBPgh24

new dreamy collab? yes yes yes. we couldn't be more excited to announce that our #CollaborativeFilmmaking team is collaborating with #TheLullabyProject to create meaningful, community-directed music for our #VisualizingLoss project funded by the @mcelhattanfdn <3 #loss #grief

The entire #VisualizingLoss study has been conducted remotely. To involve participants in the planning process, we created a #Jamboard where participants could share their preferences and ideas on different aspects of the #research #dissemination event. #communityengagement #CBPR

Today we meet w/ our advisory board to plan a community screening of #VisualizingLoss, supporting parents who have lost a child to a life limiting illness. Parents shared how they want their personal #stories shared with the world, a critical part of #CollaborativeFilmmaking.

In our #VisualizingLoss study on #grief, a mother describes how she continues to take care of her son, even after his passing. Like other participants, she has found comfort in knowing that she will always be his mother, and he will always be her son. #collaborativefilmmaking

A direct quote from one of our #VisualizingLoss Co-Analysis Sessions. A major theme in this participant’s film is time, and how her relationship with time has evolved throughout her experience with #palliativecare. 1/3 #bereavement #grief @mcelhattanfdn @jessgrifburke

We have some exciting updates about our #visualizingloss #collaborativefilmmaking study. The skills of our team film editor have been requested by 1 of our participants. Having a film editor on the team helps to ensure the final film matches the participant’s creative vision. 1/2

In our study #VisualizingLoss we assess #collaborativefilmmaking as a therapeutic tool by administering a post-study survey to participants, which will explore the effects of #filmmaking on attitudes, wellbeing, coping, and more. Learn more in our poster @ @PittPalCare's retreat!

Just like our participant-created films, each parent’s grief journey is so different from the next. The most recent film in our #VisualizingLoss study introduced the role of #religion when coping with the #loss of a child. #faith #grief #berevement #palliativecare

The first Co-Analysis Session for #VisualizingLoss revealed so much detail about this mother’s #grief journey and her outlook on life. Looking forward to hearing what our other participants have to share in our ongoing #CollaborativeFilmmaking study. #artsbasedresearch #create

In preparation for an upcoming collaborative filmmaking #coanalysis session, the #VisualizingLoss team is meeting to discuss how to navigate sensitive interviewing in #qualitative research, and how to mitigate the potential negative impacts associated with conducting the session.
Friday: Shipping Day. Our next group of participants in #VisualizingLoss will be getting their #collaborativefilmmaking equipment any day now! Over the next few weeks, they will plan, shoot, and edit their short films in response to the research prompts.

Monday: Our 1st #VisualizingLoss participant has submitted her short film. Now her #film will be prepped for a Co-Analysis session - we will ask her clarifying questions with the research question in mind, asking her to describe what she filmed & the story behind the elements.

The #VisualizingLoss advisory board is guiding us to ensure our participants & research team feel supported through the collaborative filmmaking process. Emotional conversations in #palliativecare research are inevitable & a #traumainformed approach is key. @mcelhattanfdn
During our virtual Collaborative Filmmaking Training, we asked our #VisualizingLoss participants to answer the following prompt using #HCD activities: “How have you changed since your #grief journey began and how have you remained the same?” #palliativecare @mcelhattanfdn

#VisualizingLoss is off to a strong and creative start. Our participants have successfully completed their 2-day collaborative filmmaking #training and have used #storyboarding to plan out their vision for their #films. #visualmethods #participatorymethods #artsbasedmethods

Presenting our new #VisualizingLoss study logo! This is a product of collaboration between our amazing study participants, research team, and graphic designer @SophieMaliphant. Follow along on this thread as we break down the meaning behind each component.#palliativecare
