If gender ideology is here to erase women in language, #surrogacy is here to erase mothers.
We remember early conversations with @laoisedebrun on the referendum to remove the word ‘mother’ in Ireland’s constitution and the #VoteNoRef24 campaign.

MOTHERHOOD AND SURROGACY to anyone paying attention to legal trends and markets, you will have noticed that Ireland enacted its Assisted Human Reproduction Act brought about by a concerted media and lobbying campaign and a one-sided debate, the same playbook that was used to get the Gender Recognition Act passed. Within days of the Legislation being passed, open evenings aimed at gay men were being advertised by commercial surrogacy agencies in Dublin. Suddenly the biological inability of two men or one man to have a child is reframed as infertility and gay rights are stretched to include the right to father a child. The Irish government ignored warnings from myself as an IBCLC, barrister and women and children’s rights campaigner and @NotAllGays CEO as a solicitor and lesbian and gay rights campaigner when we were invited to brief the Oireachtas. They voted down amendments proposed by @SenatorKeogan and @RonanMullen like the barring of any man who had a previous conviction of sexual offences against a child, from applying to commission a child. As the law now stands, a single man over 21 in Ireland can commission a child from a surrogate. Are people even aware of this? If not, shame on our media for only covering the soft end that garners the most sympathy. Shame on our parliamentarians for allowing @SenatorKeogan to be excluded from the Oireachtas committee for making a universally regarded and normative counter argument against surrogacy: that it exploits women and commodifies babies. This is what I mean by the Upside Down: all norms are transgressed as useful idiots cheer from the sidelines . After the Act passed, ( but not before mind, which was odd) @_IHREC issued a warning that it was in conflict with EU Anti-trafficking legislation and since then, the UN special rapporteur on violence against women and girls has authored a report into surrogacy worldwide and concluded that there is no way to mitigate for the effect for the separation from the mother. @UNSRVAW has called for the banning of all surrogacy worldwide. So now we are caught like a bunny in headlights: can’t go forward, can’t go backwards. What next? I have written to @CarrollJennifer and sent her the UN report and requested a meeting. In the meantime, we see how the assisted reproduction industry is pushing to do away with the difficult issues of the reality of a biological mother by creating eggs from human skin. To me this is further evidence of a visceral hatred for the reality and role of motherhood. As a mother of three, it does something to my soul. We are all born of mothers and to try to change or destroy that is to work against humanity. @PatLeahyIT has pointed out that we need more socially conservative voices in office and on the airwaves and that they should not be treated as toxic. Not least as it will offset the Irish tendency for socially enforced groupthink. I welcome this wholeheartedly. It isn’t even conservative necessarily, it is just critical thinking and dissent against official narrative . We must address this issue fast before more dystopian laws are allowed pass unchecked by a political class and media all just parroting the radical progressive / NGO talking points. Only yesterday @SocDems launched a campaign to recognise non-binary people in law. We must stop this dangerous nonsense. Enough.
“All of these are women’s words and we will not let them be stolen.” When @anliathluachra of @TheCountessIE spoke at the @WDI_UK conf today about the group’s origin and its successful campaigns, many women in the chat recalled this powerful video and the defeat of #VoteNoRef24
“Bean” is a woman, fighting for our cause
“Cailín” is a girl, just like I once was
“Máthair” is my mother, the foundation of my life
“Mná” are us women, united in this fight.

@Mickbraz1 If he had any honour he would have fallen on his sword straight after the #VoteNoRef24 but nope, he had to have his last big jaunt to America for St. Patrick's day first.

That's the fault of those who "unfairly labelled [people as] far right" and demonstrates the lack of critical thinking that was the foundation of the yes campaign.

That phenomenon saw many decent people unfairly labeled 'far-right'.
In part because in the social media space their tweets were being amplified by bigots and racists.
Bigots who didn't care why someone was voting 'No-No' and would gladly amplify any tweet voting that way 🤷♂️
That doesn't mean that McDowell's points were "far right" points. Those on the "far right" (not saying anyone referenced there is) can amplify genuine points also.

McDowell gets a lot of credit for his role in the No campaign.
If you look at that role, on social media, it was heavily amplified by the far-right.
They drove the vast amount of engagement of his tweets and media appearances.
Which is a measurable stat and not an opinion.

Similarly, there were those ideologically motivated to continue the removal of the words "woman" and "mother" from Irish legislation.
These ideologues have an undue influence in Irish politics.

1,021,546 voted 'no' on 39th Amendment.
Vast majority of those people are neither far-right nor racist.
Within that number is a vocal bunch of racists.
I think it would be a mistake to assume they had no impact whatsoever or to underestimate their commitment to hatred.
The #VoteYesYes anthem.
Be sure to post in reply to any X post you see trying to explain away the referendum result.

Neale Richmond will try and bamboozle us with all kinds of business and legal jargon to try and get this vote through, but all signing up to the EU's Unified Patent Court does is hand Brussels even more control over this country, which would suit him just fine. #votenoref24

Gov & Sinn Fein are being absolutely destroyed on local radio this morning.
People are not happy out there.
There is no trust left.
An absence of certain local politicians to speak on the issue has been flagged.
