Wow, look at this. That's a great example of experimental archaeology and just shows how partial the archaeological record is.
Well done #WHGS_YAC. You never fail to impress π
#WHGS_YAC recently checked on their archaeological investigation about how different materials rot! We got some very interesting results - and one object completely decomposed! @YAC_CBA @archaeologyuk

To finish off our unit on the archaeology of water, #WHGS_YAC had a special visitor from @UoMArchaeology, @dkeenanj! Duncan taught us all about Roman aqueducts and what we can learn from their mineral deposits. We even got to handle real arch. samples! @YAC_CBA @archaeologyuk

Our #WHGS_YAC, based at William Humes Primary, explored the importance of water to people and cultures across the world during their YAC sessions last termπ§ππ¦
Find out how they got on πππ
@YAC_CBA We then explored water for ourselves, focusing on the properties and why people might consider it to be special, which we then used to create a piece of watercolour art. 𧡠3/3

#WHGS_YAC had a fantastic trip to @I_W_M last week! We learned more about the two World Wars and made links between our school and the exhibits there. It was sobering to think about what boys from our school would have experienced @YAC_CBA @archaeologyuk

#WHGS_YAC toured around the school yesterday - we looked at the spot where a bomb landed on the field in 1941 (bomb map: https://t.co/m05vSlq6hR), then explored the tunnels under the school and imagined what it might have been like during an air raid! @YAC_CBA @UoMLibrary

#WHGS_YAC is doing something extra exciting this half term - learning about the history of our 136-yr-old school! Last week we looked at changes in the local area around the school using @digimap4schools and the aerial photo explorer from @HistoricEngland. @YAC_CBA @archaeologyuk

#WHGS_YAC had some new members from Year 4 last half term! We learned about the Romans and how they impacted the UK, with a focus on #RutlandRomanVilla. We also had a go at making our own mini mosaics, courtesy of @romanmosaics! @ULASarchaeology @YAC_CBA

It was such a privilege & joy to have met the Young Archaeologists @WHGSPrimary! I thoroughly enjoyed the kidsβ enthusiasm during our making featherwork class earlier this year. Fantastic to see βSpangling Feathersβ and all the amazing #WHGS_YAC research projects!
#WHGS_YAC have been working on their research project for the last month! The children made posters and presented them yesterday using topics they learned about over the year. They were so proud of their hard work! @YAC_CBA @StefanHanss #EducationwithCharacter #archaeology 𧡠1

This was such a lovely end to our first year of #whgs_yac at @WHGSPrimary. I cannot wait for next year! @YAC_CBA

#WHGS_YAC have been whipcording! We've been looking at folk crafts and how people in the past made textiles and ropes. We're learning that understanding how regular people lived and worked is an important aspect of #archaeology. It's not all gold and glitter! @YAC_CBA

Check out some of these #experimentalarchaeology creations from #WHGS_YAC, one of our fantastic After-School branches ππ
#WHGS_YAC have been making cordage again! This half term we'll be doing some #experimentalarchaeology, with a focus on textiles. It was fiddly, but it gave us an insight into the time and effort it would have taken people in the past to make string and rope. @YAC_CBA

William Hulme Grammar School YAC opened the doors to its after-school branch 6 months ago. You can follow all their adventures using #WHGS_YAC.
Check out what they have been getting up to and open your own after-school YAC branch here π

#WHGS_YAC had some great answers to @McrMuseum's #bigquestion: which is the most important ancient Egyptian artefact in Manchester Museum? My fav sentence:"He has carved his name so deep that no one else can carve their name into this beautiful lintel." @EgyptMcr @MM_Connects

Looks like #WHGS_YAC had a fantastic trip out to @McrMuseum to explore their Egyptology gallery.
We particularly like the photo of the ancient and not so ancient stelae!!!!
#WHGS_YAC had a FABULOUS time at @McrMuseum! We spent hours looking at the different galleries, focusing on Egyptology. The cherry on top was our VIP tour with @EgyptMcr through the #goldenmummies exhibit (and showing him our stelae)! Thank you so much! @YAC_CBA @MM_Connects

#WHGS_YAC are learning about Graeco-Roman Egypt! We are making Egyptian stelae this half term in preparation for our trip to @McrMuseum.
@EgyptMcr we can't wait! #archaeology #egyptology @YAC_CBA @MM_Connects
