This past weekend, the world lost a beautiful soul and a powerful mind. Wanda Robson had a special relationship with the DBDLI and just like her sister, Viola Desmond, her legacy will live on.
In honour of the remarkable life of #WandaRobson, I am reposting this thread that tells the story of how Wanda helped bring the story of her sister Viola to the attention of Canadians and people around the world.
1.The story of how #ViolaDesmond ended up on Canada's $10 bill is an improbable one. It speaks to the power & love of a formidable woman named #WandaRobson for her big sister Viola. It shows us how ordinary people from small places w/ vision & persistence can make history.
#WandaRobson helped change Canadian history, and she started changing it in her 80s! Without her commitment to having her sister Viola’s story told, most Canadians still wouldn’t know who #ViolaDesmond was. It’s because of Wanda’s indomitable spirit that today, many do.
#WandaRobson was the loveliest, most gracious & decent person you could ever meet. She was warm, playful, hilarious & sweet. She was full of mischief…the life of the party. She loved to share her story but she wanted to hear your story too. She was impossible not to adore.
