#WATDEV Regional Workshop kicks off in Addis Ababa!
The workshop brings together regional planners, basin authorities, modelling experts, and partner institutions to validate and prioritize Best Management Practice (BMP) scenarios for Ethiopia.
Using a fully participatory approach, stakeholders are reviewing basin-level intervention scenarios developed under the WATDEV modelling frameworkโensuring they reflect local realities, water management priorities, and long-term climate resilience goals.
The workshop is jointly convened by @InstituteEiar, @ASARECA, @CIHEAMBari, and partners under the WATDEV Project, with support from @aics_it.

๐น Presentation and discussion of BMP intervention scenarios
๐น Stakeholder validation using structured, participatory tools
๐น Identification of enabling conditions for basin-wide scaling
๐น Prioritization of scenarios to guide future planning and decision-making
This event marks a significant step toward transitioning from localized assessments to strategic, basin-level water and land management solutions, supporting more sustainable, climate-smart agriculture across Ethiopia.
The afternoon session of the #WATDEV Regional Workshop in Malindi focuses on consolidating insights and validating priority BMP scenarios with basin stakeholders.
Key activities include:
- Plenary reporting from each break-out group, as rapporteurs present scenario analyses and stakeholder inputs
- Facilitated validation and prioritization session led by @KALRO and @ISRIC
- Participants collectively assess the feasibility of each BMP
- Identify priority practices for basin-level scaling
- Synthesis and wrap-up by ISRIC, outlining emerging findings
Closing session with @CIHEAMBari and @ISRICorg, mapping the next steps toward developing implementation protocols and A2.4 training modules
Todayโs collaborative process strengthens the scientific, institutional, and community foundations needed for climate-smart water management in the Tana River Basin.
