Very exciting to see the sackcloth that was the inspiration for @florajowriter's #WhatYouCallFree during my recent visit to @NtlMuseumsScot in Edinburgh! Amazing to think it was worn by the real Jonet.
I'm giving a talk about #WhatYouCallFree on Monday. I've been so immersed in 1919 lately that it's strange to return to the 17th century, but I've just remembered how invested I am in these two real women and their stories. #Jonet #Helen #herstory #historicalfiction
Fascinated to learn about this exhibition which includes a replica of the sackcloth gown worn by Jonet and honours the women of Calder who were accused of witchcraft.
There's a very brief reference to Margaret Thomson in #WhatYouCallFree.
We need to keep telling their stories.
It's very poignant to see our sackcloth on display in the kirk vestry where Margaret Thomson (and probably others) was imprisoned.
You can tour the kirk and see the exhibition at Kirk of Calder, Mid Calder on Sundays 2-4pm (except 28th) until end of September.
