I would put my conspiracy theory like this: based on reincarnation and the entanglement between strangers, the idea is: maybe after the end of a life, our energy will spread and float in many pieces, then it can spill into the people who reborn us and into others, depending on which part is more, meaning when we meet and fall in love with someone, they all carry a part of our old energy reincarnated, until we can meet the person who carries the last remaining big part of ours in this life.. if we can't find the person who carries that last part, we will feel lacking and incomplete..
