@EricLagadec @astronomywriter @Astro_MiguelM @10943_Brunier @LucieLeboulleux @MatBethermin @djulik @bmac_astro @alexislavail @Badrizio @DrMaz_Astro @AbsilOli One of the best travels I had was to Namibia in 2018, we were able to visit H.E.S.S. observatory! As seen, it’s not regular telescopes, they are made to capture Cherenkov radiation.
Other cool observatory I managed to visit in 2019 was Teide observatory!

At Nice observatory, @ObsCoteAzur , we have a Coudé refractor, I think there was one in Paris, Lyon, and Algiers, who has ever seen such a telescope? #WorldObservatoriesTour (Pic with Aymard Badolo, a PhD Student from Ougadougou, working with me, Mamadou N'Diaye and @KamSZach )
Another observatory I visited and that I did not see here : @OnsalaRymd , in Sweden, a great location , which provides offices with views! #WorldObservatoriesTour
@EricLagadec @Astro_MiguelM @10943_Brunier @LucieLeboulleux @MatBethermin @djulik @bmac_astro @alexislavail @Badrizio @DrMaz_Astro @AbsilOli Hi! A lot of worldwide observatories have already been mentioned, but I still have a chance that some have not been shared yet! So let’s start this #WorldObservatoriesTour with the Giant Magellan Telescope ‘s construction site in the Atacama Desert as of 2018... @GMTelescope
Now I remember I also visited a great observatory in Australia, Mt Stromlo, to give a talk. Sadly it was after the fire and the only pictures I found are from the view and the local inhabitants... it is a great place, with great astronomers! #WorldObservatoriesTour
Any pictures from observatories in Iran @teymursaif ? I had no chance to visit any during my stay! #WorldObservatoriesTour
Et en France, on n'a pas des observatoires ailleurs? Genre Besançon, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Plateau de Bure etc? #WorldObservatoriesTour
I think we are missing observatories in Italy, I have only been to two, who recognise them (technically I think one never hosted a telescope), more Italian telescopes around? #WorldObservatoriesTour
@EricLagadec @Astro_MiguelM @10943_Brunier @LucieLeboulleux @MatBethermin @djulik @bmac_astro @alexislavail @Badrizio @DrMaz_Astro @AbsilOli I visited this place in 2014... The remains of El Caracol, the Observatory, on the ancient site of Chichen Itza
Mexico. #WorldObservatoriesTour
Looking through my old photo albums for all the observatories I ever visited left me feeling super nostalgic 🙃 the whole #WorldObservatoriesTour thread started by @EricLagadec is pretty awesome.
@EricLagadec @Astro_MiguelM @10943_Brunier @LucieLeboulleux @MatBethermin @djulik @bmac_astro @alexislavail @Badrizio @DrMaz_Astro @AbsilOli I'd like to contribute to a "resolved" view of @maunakeaobs in this nice #WorldObservatoriesTour thread! Here's the CSO helmet, SMA Dish #5, Keck primary, and the Subaru scope. Adventures (not shown) included chirping ice off SMA dishes and 4WD rolling backward on the way up...

Hamilton. Despite the open dome during the day time, no telescopes were hurt in the process! @EricLagadec @Astro_MiguelM @10943_Brunier @LucieLeboulleux @djulik @bmac_astro @alexislavail @Badrizio @DrMaz_Astro @AbsilOli My favorite telescope is ALMA. It is an incredibly beautiful and majestic site at the middle of the Andean volcanoes, an insanely sensitive telescope observing at the coolest wavelength (OK, I am biased ), and there are donkeys and vicunas around! #WorldObservatoriesTour
