#WorldBuildingThread Historically, making fabric is a full-time, everyone works, thing. Sowing fields for flax? Dudes w/plows. Harvesting same? Dudes w/ scythes. Shepherding fiber-bearing livestock? Dudes. Sheering them? Dudes w/sheers.
Dear #ttrpg / #pbta designers: if you are designing a world with a tech level before 1600/Queen Elizabeth I, & you have not read this book, chances are good this book will be of use. ##worldbuildingthread https://t.co/LkJGRXhqYl
See here where the clothing on Syl is so carefully listed? That’s for a few reasons! #worldbuildingthread
Colonial newspapers contributed to the perpetuation of slavery. Advertised 250 years ago today: “RAN away ... a Mulatto Man Slave, named Syl, alias Sylvanus ... He has been traveling with a white Man, who may help him." (Massachusetts Gazette & Boston Post-Boy 9/13/1773)

Dang, check out the machine she built to re-purpose scavenged textiles! Start at 11:16 if yarn isn't your whole deal. Just think about what people might need and build in the Apocalypse. Follow the thread, indeed. #worldbuildingthread https://t.co/sBxerkcgQ3
#KnittingIsCoding & #WeavingIsCoding in case you missed it. All this computer stuff we depend on goes back to textiles. #WorldBuildingThread

#worldbuildingthread for my essay series on, well, thread. https://t.co/liPEU8G3QT
So here’s a thing: imagining a basketballbat and the game it implies is a really fun #worldbuildingthread starting place!
DnDudes: „Mit DnD kann man alles spielen!!!!“
Meguey Baker: „Halt meinen Basketballschläger…“
Meguey's World-building Megathread! When I first wrote these, I didn't have a #worldbuildingthread tag sorted out, so it was not as helpful as it could be. Time to change that! Now with Even Better links to the TOP of each thread!
Surprise #worldbuildingthread I guess?! If you're looking at morbidity & mortality in your imaginary people, what are they doing about infection? And, no shock, people have been treating for infection literally forever. (CW: mummies) https://t.co/Ssfc5NADyb
When I talk about #worldbuildingthreads and the impact of thread on your world, this is a tiny part of what I mean.

This video illustrates how traditional rope is made: the process, visualized by the confraternity of San Pascual Bailón de Calatayud, patron saint of ropes, starts with smashing grass fibers and ends with the braiding phase: https://t.co/21n3Ijk7KE https://t.co/bJE4ZjFOKd
Ok, so apparently @filamena can provoke a #worldbuildingthread from me on how the cut of clothing dictates action, with a side rant about Renaissance Fairs, I guess? Stay tuned?
Put this on the #worldbuildingthread list: parallel development happens. Trade is not always for things you /can't/ make; sometimes you just like novelty or not /having/ to make it yourself. Think about all the things people in your world need, & how they make it for themselves.
Surprise, this is a #worldbuildingthread about memory and how we hold things. We all know about making backstories for #ttrpg characters; it's so easy to make everything tidy, a path that makes sense, but that's not how memory works, or how saving things happens.
In the link, I talk about furs. @mousewifegames asked about other fibers too, so I guess #worldbuildingthread on them real quick?
That's a mighty list of fibers! Real quick, they form a timeline: fur/leather ->plant -> wool -> synthetics. All of them have their uses! I'm just this actual minute putting the finishing touches on Meguey's Miscellany of Mending, which has some commentary on each.
Ok, let's go on a little #worldbuildingthread rant here, about maps. I love maps. We have all seen maps of dungeons, and maps of fantasy worlds. Street maps and floor plans and warring kingdoms. Trouble is, they're so often all wrong.
I have a weird #ttrpg #worldbuildingthread for you this morning, about: hair. It starts with me watching this very entertaining & all round good video by Morgan Donner, who I would be if I wasn't busy being me. Shout outs to Bernadette Banner & Cathy Hay.

Hi. I will try to bring you a thread about Elethri & some of its customs in the next couple days(some aspects of Elethrian life & culture are minor spoilers for Children of the Dryads or its sequel, & so will not be included). #WorldBuildingThread #NovelBuilding #WritingCommunity

As long as I accomplish that, the work is worth it.
What do you think of the idea? What kind of crazy do you go through to make your worlds believable?

The point is, b/c of these “tiny stories,” the world is coming alive much more organically than my first novel.
Will I release these tiny stories? I doubt it. They are for me, in order to create a more believable world.
