Yesterday, I used colored notecards to assign themes to each scene in the manuscript. I ran out of colors AND cards and switched to a database. This might make it easier for me to search for the right thematic puzzle piece as I redo the manuscript.

Got a rejection yesterday for a chapter from my MS that I submitted last December! But they liked it. I’ll send them something else and take another look at that chapter and submit it elsewhere.

It’s hot for Seattle when temps exceed 80F/30C. Hiro installed our old AC unit this morning, and with that and the circulating fans, we’re a little cooler. It always ends up warmer inside, though.

I’m 381 words in to an essay I’ve been avoiding.
And yes, it’s hard to connect the big amorphous ideas that prompted this in the first place, but yes, I remember that I like writing about sex and desire.

One of my essays was just named a finalist for the Columbia Journal online nonfiction contest. Fingers are crossed that it wins but I’m so happy my braided essay about Japan and my queerness is getting love.

I submitted some writing to two different outlets yesterday, and have a few more to submit to later today. Trying to find places that don’t charge a lot for submitting (even though I understand why they need to).

I got some excellent agent feedback on my query and the first ten pages this past Friday. Part of me wants to submit to a few publishers I’ve had my eye on right now, but I will hang out until the beta reader feedback comes in.
