On the sidelines of UNGA81, President Emmerson Mnangagwa engaged Zimbabweans living in the United States, underscoring the Diaspora’s growing role in national development.
The President noted that Zimbabweans abroad contribute more than US$2.4 billion annually in remittances, while emphasising a shift towards strategic investment and the circulation of skills, technology, knowledge and capital.
He highlighted opportunities for Diaspora participation in agriculture, mining, renewable energy, infrastructure and the digital economy under NDS2 and Vision 2030.
President Mnangagwa also outlined efforts to improve Diaspora services, facilitate investment and harness Zimbabwean expertise globally.
Moving beyond "brain drain" @edmnangagwa is calling for "brain circulation": Zimbabweans abroad sharing expertise, technology and capital with home, while continuing to live and work internationally.

GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO MOBILISE #ZIMDIASPORA CAPITAL FOR PRODUCTIVE INVESTMENT✅
The Government of Zimbabwe, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the RBZ, is committed to channelling diaspora remittances from consumption into productive investment and long-term wealth creation.
Zimbabwe receives US1.62 billion in early 2026 a 24% rise year-on-year. Remittances now contribute 8.1% of GDP and 15% of foreign currency receipts, yet remain largely directed to household expenditure.
RBZ Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu stated: "By deepening financial inclusion and innovation, we can transform remittances from household support into catalysts for investment, enterprise development and inclusive growth."
New Financial Instruments – The RBZ is introducing securitised instruments backed by remittance flows, removing sovereign risk to unlock over US$1 billion annually into capital markets. Diaspora Bonds, a Diaspora Mining Fund, and a Development REIT are also under development to channel billions into infrastructure and productive enterprises.
Investment Incentives – Finalised incentives include tax breaks, simplified registration, land access for diaspora ventures, full profit repatriation, 100% foreign ownership, and digital licensing. The RBZ affirms "Capital in, capital out" investors may repatriate principal and profits, and borrow up to US$20 million offshore without prior approval.
Inclusive Policy Formulation – The Government insists diaspora voices must shape the Zimbabwe Diaspora Policy (2025–2030). Why this matters: diaspora input ensures market-ready products (competitive returns, global compliance), builds trust through co-ownership, provides AML/KYC intelligence to de-risk banking, injects sectoral expertise (fintech, agritech, renewables), offers real-time market intelligence, and establishes accountability for sustained policy delivery.
The Ministry has benchmarked best practices in Ghana, Nigeria, India, Ethiopia and Canada, and is scheduling formal consultations across the UK, South Africa, Australia, and the US to finalise the framework.
A Call to Action – President Mnangagwa has directed ambassadors to "develop robust models to harness diaspora remittances as investment capital." As Zimbabwe implements NDS2 (2026–2030), we call on all diasporans to join upcoming consultations, engage embassies, and move beyond remittances to become co-owners of our national future through productive investment that creates jobs, builds industries, and generates lasting prosperity.
