When a noun ends in <ch>, the plural depends on how these letters are pronounced. For <couch>, the plural is with [ɪz] because <ch> is pronounced [ʧ]: <couches>. For <monarch> the plural is with [s] because <ch> is pronounced as [k]: <monarchs>.

I'm prepping some training materials. These are "minimal pairs." They're words that differ by only 1 sound. They're used to teach both perception & production of differences of sounds while keeping the materials "real." I don't use nonsense words. #SLP #slpeeps #accentmod
