The concept of love language is the idea that we all give and receive love in different ways. If you understand your partner’s love language it can vastly improve your communication with each other. https://t.co/zjEW2vXwib #lovelanguage #affirmation #actsofservice #physicaltouch

Love languages aren't always spoken. Sometimes, it's the big bowl of chili dad makes on his day off, or the hours spent perfecting a stew. These acts of service speak volumes. #LoveLanguage #FamilyTraditions #ActsOfService

Small acts. Big impact. 💙
From bake sales in Reception and Year 4, to Year 2's litter-picking and Year 5's visit to a local care centre, our pupils have been showing what it means to serve others and make a difference in their community.

The People Who Carry Chairs
A few years ago, I started noticing the people who carry chairs after events.
Not the speaker. Not the singer. Not the person everyone thanked publicly. I mean the quiet people folding tables in the corner while everyone else drifts toward the parking lot. The ones gathering half empty cups, stacking metal chairs against the wall, wiping crumbs into their hands because nobody can find the broom.
Every church has them. Every office. Every family.
And most of the time, they are almost invisible.
I think our culture trains us to dream about being important. We want to lead the meeting, give the speech, build the company, write the book. Even when we try to be humble, we often imagine humility as something impressive. We still want to be seen doing good.
But being of service usually feels much smaller than that.
It looks like answering a phone call when you are tired. Staying late after everyone else clocks out. Driving across town because someone’s battery died. Listening to a story you have already heard three times because the person telling it needs to say it a fourth. It is rarely glamorous. Most acts of service disappear almost immediately after they are done.
That used to bother me more than I wanted to admit.
There is a strange ache in doing something meaningful that nobody notices. A part of me wants evidence that my effort mattered. I want the thank you text. I want acknowledgment. I want someone to remember I carried the heavy thing too.
But I have slowly realized something uncomfortable. Service stops being service the moment my real payment becomes recognition.
I do not mean appreciation is bad. Gratitude matters. Encouragement matters. But if my willingness to help rises and falls on whether I get seen, then I am not really offering myself. I am making a transaction.
Christ washed feet knowing full well some of those feet would walk away from Him. That detail unsettles me every time I think about it. He served people who misunderstood Him, abandoned Him, even betrayed Him. Not because they earned it. Because love bends downward naturally.
I think that is what mature love actually looks like. Not dramatic declarations. Not inspirational quotes floating over sunsets online. Mature love notices what needs to be carried and quietly picks up one side of it.
There is also something deeply human about receiving service that we rarely talk about. Most of us prefer helping over being helped. Helping feels strong. Receiving help feels exposing. Yet sooner or later, age, illness, grief, exhaustion, or failure puts us in the chair instead of making us the one carrying it.
That may be why small acts matter so much. They remind us we survive by leaning on one another. Nobody gets through life self contained, no matter how polished they appear.
Lately, I have started paying attention to the people who refill the coffee, unlock the doors early, check on lonely neighbors, or stay calm when everybody else is unraveling. They rarely become famous. Their names are often forgotten by history.
But entire communities rest on their shoulders.
And if I am fortunate, maybe my life will too.
Reception’s act of service (their bake sale) raised an incredible £180! Thank you to all the children, families and staff who supported this wonderful effort in aid of @NSPCC.

If someone's drowning in a project, acts of service means asking, "Can I help?" Offer to take something off their plate. Always ask permission—the recipient decides what's helpful. #ActsOfService #Teamwork
