At the base level, taxa are described by the structural differences in their cells. One class that precedes most extant #Prokaryotes and #Eukaryotes is the #Archaeans, which are prokaryotic but have different methods of energy synthesis, including metal reduction and ammonia metabolism. Many are #extremophiles and have different chemical bonds in their cell walls/membranes, giving them temperature and chemical tolerances well exceeding that of a human. They are often found near Volcanic vents and buried under ice. Their presence elsewhere will be confirmed within a decade or two no doubt.
If such a lineage ever progressed to a stage of Eukaryotic and/or multicellular organization, you could have biologics of all different kinds existing on worlds that would be utterly uninhabitable to humans, who may be capable of tolerating our conditions.
...And which may continue to exhibit other strange properties inherent to Archaeans, such as rapid gene transfection upon exposure to new environments or contact with other microbes or cells.
Surely nobody has written SciFi about that threat before.

While I'm fascinated by the plant and animal kingdom, I also want to learn about, perhaps, a third category.
In a Post Disclosure World how will we refer to the various species that are reportedly engaging our planet?
Will we call them the Alien Kingdom?
Either way, I would like all world governments with data on the various species to release that information so that humanity can gain clarity on this new kingdom.
