What does it really mean to support a child’s learning?
It’s not just about books.
It’s not just about grades.
It’s about understanding how they feel, how they think, and how their brains are growing.
During our recently-held #Art4Educators training, @RGimara a clinical psychologist and a global mental health researcher explored something powerful with teachers:
• How children’s brains develop from early childhood to adolescence
• Why emotions often feel bigger during teenage years
• How factors like nutrition, environment, and trauma shape learning
• And how to recognise signs of depression, anxiety, and learning challenges.
Because when a child is overwhelmed… learning becomes harder.
But when a child feels safe, seen, and supported… learning becomes possible.
This is why we integrate art-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) into education.
Not as an add-on.
But as a foundation.
Because healing is not separate from education.
It is what makes education possible.
To every teacher choosing to hold space, not just teach,
we see you.

Part: 3/3
Teacher Isaac shares what happened next.
Not just in one classroom.
Not just in one lesson.
But across the whole school.
Spaces began to open,
where students can express themselves,
seek peer support,
and feel safe being who they are.
This is what it looks like when care is not an activity,
but a culture.

A fist bump (the good kind 😄) for every educator stepping up.
Not just to teach…
But to hold space.
For honesty.
For real, heart-to-heart conversations.
For learners to be truly seen.
These teachers?
They’re ready.
How about you?

Before students can be supported to Face Up to the world with confidence, their teachers must be supported first.
This is exactly why our programs focus on strengthening teachers before everything else. We understand that sustainable change happens when the ecosystems around students are strengthened.
When teachers are empowered and supported, they create a multiplier effect that reaches far beyond the classroom and into the wider community.
In many challenging environments, teachers carry immense responsibility and often bear the burden of guiding and shaping young lives with limited support.
By investing in teachers first, we enable them to create spaces where students can grow, believe in themselves, and confidently face the world.

This has been my day today with @FacesUpUganda today at the #art4educators training.
I’ve been documenting the day’s moments alongside @ntemid and this has been some of the work of the day.

Sometimes you gotta put in those extra hours, gotta get every set.
We spent some late hours preparing and setting everything up as we get ready to host the #Art4Educators happening today starting at 8:00 AM.

Art for Educators 2026 Is Here!
Bigger. Deeper. More Transformative.
Last year, we convened 40 teachers from under-resourced primary schools in Kampala.
This year, we are bringing together 140+ educators from Kampala, Bukedea, and Kayunga into one shared space of learning, reflection, and practice.
Our Goal
To equip teachers with practical, creative tools to integrate arts education into their classrooms, addressing students’ social, emotional, and learning needs.
At #FacesUp Uganda, we operate from a simple but powerful belief:
Healing is not separate from education.
Healing is the foundation of learning.
When children feel safe, seen, and supported:
They engage more meaningfully
They participate more confidently
They begin to believe in themselves
And from there, academic excellence becomes possible.
This convening is not just a training.
It is a commitment to embedding care into classrooms and strengthening educators as frontline leaders of emotional safety and learning transformation.
A special thanks to Someone Else's Child, Inc. and @Global4Children for their investment, which is going to enable us deliver this day and to our knowledge partners, @SatArtClass , for partnering with us to ensure that arts education is in every classroom across Uganda.
Thanks to @Era92Media for hosting this session.
We are also grateful for our partners: The New Africa Fund, @issrofffamfoun , @Paceable , @TheLatitude0 .
If you are a partner, educator, or institution passionate about trauma-informed, arts-integrated education, we would love to connect.

Educators play a crucial role in implementing the #Art4Educators program in the under-resourced schools we serve.
Last week, @CleverNinsiima visited the various schools where the Art for Education program is currently active.
This program empowers teachers with creative skills to integrate arts education into their classrooms, addressing the social, emotional, and learning needs of students. So they can build confidence self self-esteem and necessary skills to re-engage in class and in life.
This initiative is in partnership with @SatArtClass and is supported by @Some1ElsesChild .

We absolutely love it when #educators kick off their journey with the #Art4Educators program by diving headfirst into the joy and beauty of artistic expression!
At first, many believe they are “not artists,” but by the end of the sessions, they discover a remarkable transformation. It’s not about skill or talent; it’s all about the freedom to express, the creative process, and the joy of sharing that experience!
As educators embrace this journey, they truly realize the incredible power of art. Their enthusiasm blossom, inspiring them to bring this transformative experience to even more children.
Our friends @bangaafayo1 are thrilled to put these newfound skills into action this holiday season, and we can’t wait to see the magic unfold!

Last week, @CleverNins86503 joined the students under the art club at Tesfa Eritrea, refugee Nursery and Primary school.
As part of the #Arts4Educators program, in partnership with @SatArtClass and supported by @Some1ElsesChild children access weekly art sessions that support their social, emotional, and learning needs.
Last week's session invited the children to draw and write affirmations about themselves as a step to help them build self-confidence, acceptance and appreciation.

These sessions are designed to support students' emotional well-being, social skills, and learning discoveries. We can't wait for more interactions!
