Everyone talks about scaling blockchains, but almost none of them mean horizontal scalability.
@AvailProject however, does.
Right now, #AvailDA runs at 4MB blocks with 20s block times. Light clients can already sample blocks instantly from normal devices and check availability before finality.
The process is broken down like this:
• 6s to generate a block
• 6s to propagate it
• 6s to verify it
Today's bottleneck? Commitment generation. This step alone takes up to 0.4s on standard nodes.
Not to worry tho, Avail has already doubled the capacity in the past without even breaking a sweat. They've tested 8MB and 16MB blocks which are rolling out soon. ⚡
But going from MB to GB isn't a direct upgrade. At some point, block generation, verification, or propagation will cross the 6s threshold.. and then the system breaks.
To go from 4MB to 10GB blocks with a fixed 600ms block time, you need new rules entirely.

Had a great discussion with the DWallet folks in London. They have come up with a clever way to programmatically use native Bitcoin in rollups and elsewhere.
This will enable a whole bunch of programmability on top of Bitcoin.
