Our #AW09 pre-series helicopter PS5 has successfully completed one of the final flight test campaigns in Cotronei (Crotone, Italy), further expanding the aircraft's operating envelope in support of the certification programme. Conducted in the higher-altitude conditions of the Calabrian mountains and witnessed by the @EASA flight test team, the campaign focused on airfield performance and handling qualities, further confirming the aircraft's performance and maturity.
The journey to and from Cotronei was itself a significant milestone. Flying from Vergiate (Varese, Italy) to Cotronei with with an intermediate stop in Pescara, the AW09 helicopter completed its longest ferry flight to date, demonstrating the readiness of both the aircraft and the flight test programme while supporting the expansion of the certification campaign.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming our global #AW09 network to Vergiate (Varese, Italy), for a dedicated programme update, bringing together the partners who will play a key role in introducing our next-generation single-engine helicopter worldwide.
Over the course of the event, we shared the latest developments on the programme, explored cabin configuration possibilities - including #Agusta interiors - and discussed the support and #training solutions that will accompany the aircraft into service. We were also pleased to be joined by @SafranHCEngines, our engine partner, reinforcing the strong collaboration behind the AW09 programme. The highlight of the week was undoubtedly offering each of our partners the opportunity to fly the AW09 for the first time. Experiencing firsthand the aircraft’s flying characteristics and handling qualities generated great enthusiasm across the network.
A big thank you to all participants for their engagement, trust and continued support. Together, we are building the foundation for a successful market introduction of the AW09.

The #AW09 #S6 helicopter - the first production aircraft - is now flying in its new livery! The metallic grey finish paired with a petrol-blue line gives the AW09 a distinctive and refined presence, underscoring both the maturity of the programme and the meticulous attention to detail behind its design.
Inside, the cabin reflects the same commitment to comfort, accessibility, and versatility. As it continues to support flight-test activities ahead of certification, the helicopter is also taking a major step forward: welcoming customers on board. With customer demonstration flights about to begin, the AW09 opens the next chapter of its journey.
The #AW09 certification campaign is moving ahead! With extensive flight testing on prototypes PS4 and PS5, key laboratory tests successfully completed, and our first production aircraft S6 fully part of the programme, the AW09 helicopter is demonstrating strong progress toward certification.

The full-scale #AW09 cabin mock-up is on its way to #Manila, Philippines!
The mock-up will be hosted by our exclusive AW09 regional distributor, #HelitechAsia, and displayed in Manila from mid-October 2025. This initiative will offer customers from across Southeast Asia and Korea the opportunity to step inside the cabin, experience its comfort and versatility first-hand, and connect directly with the Helitech team.
Meanwhile, the AW09 programme continues to advance with strong momentum. The first serial-representative aircraft, #S6, has completed successful flights, while flight testing with #PS4 and #PS5 prototypes is progressing in parallel toward certification.
The #AW09 programme has taken a significant step forward with the maiden flight of #S6 – the first serial-production representative #helicopter.
The flight took place at #Leonardo’s Vergiate (Varese, Italy) Final Assembly Line facility, where the S6 was built.
The programme’s industrialisation phase moves forward, while ground and flight certification tests proceed at a high pace.
On July 23rd, the @ItalyinCH Ambassador, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, visited the Kopter facility located in Mollis, an industrial site where the development and testing activities of #Leonardo’s new-generation single-engine helicopter, the #AW09, take place.
Welcomed by Marco Viola, CEO of the Swiss company controlled by Leonardo, the Ambassador was able to appreciate the technological, industrial, and professional capabilities of this important industrial entity. Over the past five years, since its acquisition, Leonardo’s helicopter business has been able to embark on a path of further strengthening its already solid competitiveness in the international helicopter sector.
The AW09 is the first new helicopter model in its category on the global market in over 50 years, characterised by, among other things, high digitalisation and strong attention to #sustainability, with more than 130 preliminary contracts already secured in the international market.
The Ambassador witnessed once more the value of industrial synergies between Italy and Switzerland through Leonardo’s activities in a key industrial sector such as helicopters, which promote, among other things, mobility, social utility tasks such as rescue and firefighting, aerial work, and security.
During #Avalon2025, #Heliflite has been officially appointed as the distributor for the #Leonardo #AW09 next-generation single-engine helicopter in #Australia and #NewZealand. This announcement comes alongside the first AW09 mockup display in Australia, marking a major milestone in the aircraft’s global expansion.
