@MellyG14 Initially, it felt like “wasted” time, but I needed that 45-minute mental break to laugh, cry & feel human again. It’s a marathon, not a sprint; condition yourself over time so that you peak on test day, not burn out. Take the time for self-care, friends! #BarExamChat
We want to thank all of you for joining us for #BarExamChat, and thanks to our gracious hosts - #TheBarExamWizard, @ksilverkelly and our newest member of the team, @MellyG14!
As we come towards the end of #BarExamChat, are there any other questions out there we can answer for you? Are you feeling good about your preparation?
@MellyG14 @ksilverkelly It's a sprinty kind of marathon. And you want to leave it all on the page when you cross the finish line. #BarExamChat
@ksilverkelly @MellyG14 And when you combine the dancing and swimming threads, your #barexam performance will look just like this. #BarExamChat
@ksilverkelly @abalsd I default to sports metaphors, but it's hard when it's something i haven't done, so i stick to running/hockey/dance (bar exam as a marathon is old isn't it?) #BarExamChat
@prettymfa_esq Also, what advice do you have on advicing? (We knew it was advice on timing. See, we're all over the place and we're not even TAKING the bar exam!) #BarExamChat
@abalsd @prettymfa_esq As for timing - i know we've said it before, but practice. In terms of getting better with timing, do 1-2 MPTs and kind of "Track" where you are spending time. Like tracking the MBEs, identifying the problem is the first step #BarExamChat
@abalsd @ksilverkelly Former dancer here - so I always tell students you need multiple tech and dress rehearsals before you actually perform. Not to mention the hours in the studio where you are perfecting the dance. We don't read choreography, we practice it #BarExamChat
@abalsd @SusanLandrum1 Also, in terms of memorization - think UNDERSTAND or know, not "memorize" as just because you've merely memorized something, doesn't mean you can apply it. #BarExamChat
It's ok to start with "The issue is" or something similar. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done, and starts the writing process Think of each essay like a formula - state the legal question, then the rule, apply the facts to all parts of the rule, conclude #BarExamChat
Here's a question we got via direct message on the MEE. #BarExamChat
@ksilverkelly @abalsd In general, reading carefully and following directions is good advice for ALL parts of the Bar Exam! #BarExamChat
And now ... it's your turn in the bonus round. What #barexam questions do you have for Katherine and Melissa? #BarExamChat
@ksilverkelly @APatthoff @aerwrites In general, nearby hotels are a good idea (if it's possible). It also cuts down on traffic/commuting related stress, which can cut down on the possibility of being late. Having said that, one bar exam i had a hotel, one i stayed at home - same results #BarExamChat
@ksilverkelly @abalsd Also, follow instructions and read carefully. If the initial directions say "client would like to avoid litigation" that should be factored in, or if it says "another associate is handling issue x" don't talk about issue x. #BarExamChat
@abalsd Also, remember you have these skills, most of you have taken legal writing. The big difference here is timing, which can seem daunting, but that's where practice comes in #BarExamChat
@ksilverkelly @abalsd Exactly. It might take some time to organize your thoughts, don't start furiously typing without organizing first. #BarExamChat
