Next up on our look back in time is the Robin. Back in the day its feathers were worn for fashion and so its likely to have been a familiar bird back then as it is today. Although they wouldn’t have known about their migratory nature. #BCN250

1/2 Day 4 for our look back in time we have horses and donkeys.
We shouldn’t forget the importance that the horses played in the creation of the canals. From small strong ponies to the larger strong horses that would have pulled the barges. #BCN250

2/2 Resident since the last ice over 10,000 years ago this plant would have colonised the bogs during the land clearances for the industrial revolution. It still grows in a few places on canal network. #BCN250
2/2 Britain once produced more than 2,000 varieties of apples, but the Bramley apple had not yet been discovered. It’s possible that at the start of the great canal era people would have tucked into a Blenheim Orange apple pie instead. Still sounds delicious!! @BCNSociety #BCN250

At the @CanalRiverTrust event last week celebrating #BCN250 we received an award for services to the Birmingham Canal Navigations. The society has been working for over 50 years to ensure #LifesBetterByWater. Our Chairman Martin O’Keeffe receives the award.

Since 1987 I have shot thousands of images featuring all aspects of the #Birmingham Canal Navigations recording many changes. Here are just 2 from the slide archive featuring Perry Barr Locks and the Soho Loop.
