Wow. If you (and anyone else who may be reading this 👀) wants an outsiders' take on #Binkygate: - The States Assembly account is right to have a policy on what it does/doesn't engage with, but creating 'rules' for the internet feels a bit misguided - they can't be enforced. This would be better framed as a policy to fall back on if needed, setting out transparent steps that make be taken where posts are deemed inappropriate. - Saying that, the Greffe team can decide what they do/don't want to engage with, just as any social media user can - but realistically, action will need to be taken by them not individual users. - That being the case, muting or blocking would probably have been a better course of action? Although as a parliamentary body, the policy should probably discourage that unless its temporary so as not to put people off participation in/access to democracy. Presumably a message was an alternative to that? - If your job is trying to encourage people to stand for election or participate in democracy, perhaps posts like the ones they mention don't help that? Saying that, you are posting as an individual so it's not their problem. - If anyone mentioned in any post online takes issue with something said about them, there are already channels (contacting social networks or reporting to authorities) they can take. - When I was running media organisations' social media accounts, people post some absolute rubbish online that you don't want to be associated with. You can moderate replies and comments on your page if you choose to, but what people say quoting/sharing your posts on their accounts is not something you can control.
