After attending @bitsaa_svc #BITSync event in the Bay area and meeting a large number of alumni, we just reached Ottawa, Canada.
In the US, it's all about #AI now.
On the flight, I watched this hilarious clip which is attached.
Watching a Southwest flight attendant completely bewildered by a #humanoid robot walking down the aisle is the perfect metaphor for the current AI landscape in the US.
We want AI to solve every problem, but the moment it tries to board a flight to Vegas, institutional rules (rightly or wrongly) catch up.
What struck me during my recent interactions with a large number of Bay Area tech professionals, founders, investors, and university faculty is that America today seems to be entirely riding the AI wave (I don't want to say, living inside the AI bubble).
Every conversation eventually circles back to AI.
Cybersecurity? AI. Healthcare? AI. Education? AI. Defence? AI. Finance? AI. Manufacturing? AI.
Venture capital today appears to believe that AI alone is the answer to every problem humanity has ever faced.
But beneath the excitement, there is also visible anxiety.
Ironically, #jobs in parts of the US tech sector now appear to be disappearing faster than in India.
Many companies are using AI as the public explanation for layoffs, while simultaneously shifting substantial engineering and operational work to countries like India where the economics make far more sense.
AI has become both a technology transition and, at times, a convenient corporate narrative.
Several sectors outside the AI ecosystem seem to be struggling for attention, capital, and optimism.
Traditional technology investments are slowing. Venture funding outside AI has weakened significantly.
Valuations in many sectors are under pressure.
Capital markets increasingly reward “AI stories” while punishing almost everything else.
The wage gap in the US also appears to have widened sharply. A small section connected to frontier AI is doing extraordinarily well, while many others are deeply uncertain about the future.
#Universities are another major concern.
The cost of higher education in the US has become staggering. Even some publicly funded universities are charging tuition crossing USD 65000 per year. One wonders how long this model remains socially sustainable.
I do get the feeling that the US is going through a profound structural transition whose social consequences are still poorly understood.
Interesting times ahead for the US and the world.

Day 8 of my #30Dayscontentchallenge is a clothe sales #promotionalvideo made in #aftereffects. here i used #bitsync to drive the emotions/energy of the video. making bit sync with video #transitions is one thing i always did when i was selling wears.
Just left the Bay Area after attending the #BITSync event, an energising experience on many fronts. I had the pleasure of doing a fireside chat with Prof. Kartik Hosanagar, whose journey from BITS Pilani to The @Wharton School has so many valuable lessons for our students.
We signed an #MoU for a Rural Technology Center, made possible by the generous support of Shri. Raju Reddy, friends and family. More details on that initiative in a separate note soon.
Honoured Revathi Advaithi with the Distinguished Alumnae Award and Abhinav Khushraj with the Distinguished Service Award. Both are inspiring in their own unique ways.
Above all, I was deeply touched by the engagement of our #alumni. Over lunches, dinners and informal interactions, one thing stood out, how strongly #BITSians feel about their alma mater. Their commitment is infectious and humbling.
Thanks to this collective effort, I am proud to share that BITS Pilani will disburse over 𝐑𝐬. 𝟏𝟑𝟎 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 #𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫, the 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭 in the Institute’s history. This includes generous contributions from both the Institute and our alumni.
