Have you noticed the new cistern by the playground restrooms at #BlueJayPoint County Park? This is part of an exciting feature being added to our Nature Play Area! This cistern will provide water for a hand pump that will feed a dry stream bed in the play area.
No one's using this, right? #BlueJayPoint staff happened across this Carolina Wren nest in one of the staff's hard hats. Looks like this hat will be out of commission for a while.

Next up is #BlueJayPoint County Park! Opened in 1992 to provide environmental education, the park was named after the peninsula — or point — it forms on Falls Lake, and for the many blue jays that lived there when the area was farmed by tenant farmers. It spans 236 acres and includes 5 miles of trails (including 3.1 miles of the @NCMST).
📍 Signature feature: Visit one of the point trails to get a view of the lake. The Blue Jay Point trail is the most popular!
💎 Hidden gem: The Nature Discovery Room in our Education Center — we hear lots of "wows!" when folks enter it.

Exciting news! While #BlueJayPoint is getting Bond Improvements, park staff are upgrading the stairs from the playground parking lot to the picnic area, prepping for the new playground debuting in late spring 2026!

While Carolina anoles, like this one at #BlueJayPoint County Park, are sometimes called "American chameleons", these lizards are not true chameleons. Anoles can change color based on stress, activity level, or to display dominance.
Last week, staff heard a Wild Turkey at #BlueJayPoint! There have been a few turkey sightings in the park, but they are few and far between.
