We are glad that the #WildCoffee in #Zoka forest is gaining attention. Zoka doesn’t only have Coffea #Liberica (excelsa) but also Wild Robusta (Coffea #Canephora) Personally I have tried to domesticate some of the Zoka coffee species from wildlings and many people in #adjumani have done so. In Adjumani we learnt @narouganda has been researching and we hope Adjumani will have priority for the research outcome. We know the wild robusta has provided genetic resources to strengthen our Rubusta coffee already benefits not yet well shared with the source community. Now this means we should all get interested in protecting Zoka forest in order to protect the various biodiversity it provides. Imagine Uganda is now the leading coffee exporter and if we add excelsa that has good market we would even go further. In Zoka also there are flying squirrels with big tourist potential. Flying squirrels 🐿️ could create attention like the #guerrillas and #Shoebill. Canopy walks, bird watching and botanical tourism are all opportunities in Zoka. Zoka also is a water catchment for Adjumani and neighboring Acholi. Inside is Zoka river that feeds the nile and fertility to its flood plains. Zoka is also three in one forest having rain forest, woodland and Savana forest all standing next it each other. Such a rich, diverse and ecologically important forest needs our joint protection and preservation. It’s even further believed to be a breeding ground for Nsene. Thanks to Friends of Zoka and @AmanzWillieONE a lot of advocacy work has been done Courtesy of @arralodges we have also done a lot of documentation and communication with @ubctvuganda @DragoEbra @MikeSsebalu

EXCELSA — Uganda’s Wild Coffee Uganda has long relied on two coffee species: Arabica & Robusta. But from the Zoka Central Forest Reserve comes a third, Excelsa. Now under research at the NARO Kamenyamigo Sub-station in partnership with Makerere University @MakCAES, @ugwildlife & @kyagalanyicoffe this indigenous coffee could reshape the future of production. Why it matters 👇 ☑️ Highly tolerant to climate change ☑️ Fruits throughout the year (multiple harvests) ☑️ Strong economic potential for farmers 📊 Yield potential • 1 tree ≈ 5 kg/season • 2 seasons/year → 10 kg/tree • 225 trees/acre → ~2,250 kg/year

#Coffee prices for both #Arabica and #Robusta /#Canephora remain FIRM with recent historic higs for both #Coffea species representing the NEW NORMAL - thanks for sharing your graphs @rohlfs_werner and ofcourse there ia always a possibility of multiple issues impacting analysis putside normal behavior pattern BUT if these tarrifs takes effect it only makes the supply deficit even more difficult to deal with and even if #commodities overall see downward impact from the stupidity of politics and greed of BigCoffee the tarrifs will sooner or later ONLY make the UNPRECEDENTED SUPPLY DEFICIT even WORSE and tarrifs - as far as #coffee is related - will ONLY cause current historic highs for #cafe prices to go EVEN HIGHER, as EU will have to rely and buy more Brazil, Colombia and Vietnamese coffee to avoid buying from all those origins withouth EUDR-compliance, and U.S. will look to buy whatever CHEAPER beans they can get be it A or R regardless of origin and quality and the result will be EVEN more ASTRONOMICAL impact on prices - neither higher prices nor higher tarrifs will cause any relief toward easing DEMAND, but all contribute to even more crazy pricing BUT ALSO real opportunities for growers to open up more real DIRECT sales from farms and growers to end consumers, micro roasters and independent cafes 😇🙏🏻

Finally some source from @BARISTAMAGAZINE highlighting the fact that canephora is highly drought susceptible and thus not ‚robust‘ against everything! We should also end the wrong naming #robusta and correctly call it #canephora.
