As i am the expert in surveillance & have done consulting for safe cities; here are some tips to handle privacy; Dont be stupid like Kamran of #case9 1. Always, drill and microwave the harddisks. 2. Recording can be switched off in the NVR before an event. Both good for hikvision & Dahua 3. Most hard disks have 30 to 60 days of record. So you can wait for this duration unless the old data is automatically over written. 4. Always place your own email address for recovery. 5. New NVRs have independent encryption for hard disks. always encrypt your HDD. they can only be decrypted using a pass phrase, not a generic NVR as seen in the Drama case no 9. 6. I always recommend to use a PC and VMS to encrypt data. 7. If you want to get someone inside the house, disconnet the PoE switch for few minutes to stop camera feed to NVRs. 8. Remember, part of recording can never be deleted. This is also true for safe city cameras (e.g Rana Sanaullah got saved due to safe city recording which went against the investigation officer notes.) 9. Any camera can be compromised using a laser pointer or a spray paint.(use the tip only for self defence) 10. If you are wearing a mask, the footage is not acceptable in court of law. 11. Bonus tip: always use a messenger which is not popular (hence not intercepted) & is not associated with the phone number. e.g dust, snapchat, insta with email.

Enjoying #Case9, masterfully presented by @shazbkhanzdaGEO to empower rape survivors. Saba Qamar is outstanding, but Faisal Q’s performance as the perpetrator is even braver — a risky career move in service of the subject. He deserves all the awards, and hope he gets them.
