“I loved and lost him on Lough Sheelin.
It is I, Sabina of Ross Castle; if you hear my cry do not fear,
for there is only sorrow in my restless spirit.”

A perfect Summer day.
Good friends in a pair of kayaks on a still lake.

My family and I went for a talk, whilst we walked through forest trails, crossed bridges as we built our own – on by soothing lakes and into the healing shine of sweeping meadows.

Could well be the best week of the #YearofGeography weeks so far... (waiting to see what Arlene @ArleneCrampsie comes up with for #DonegalWeek)
As #cavanweek organised by @geogsocire for #yearofgeography ends thanks to all who contributed. Our understanding and appreciation for places, how they have been formed, influenced and shaped and the challenges they face are of paramount importance #geographymatters @ThisisCavan
@BorderIrish I am delighted, so I am to hear that you have selected ‘Border Dogs’ as one of your books of the year. Good news as #cavanweek organised by @geogsocire for #yearofgeography draws to a close
My books of the year:
‘Still Here Leaving’ by Jim James, a moving memoir about utter stasis. ‘Border Dogs’, by Jean Smyth, is a funny and satiric account of canine life in Cavan. ‘I Am the Border, So I Am’ by me, is a great Christmas present if you want to annoy a Jim you know🎄
The giant warrior, Fionn MacCumhail, weary with defeat entered a cave to rest.
He thrust his hand through the cave ceiling, vowing to rise again and further quest.
Time turned his fingers to stone; sun-bleached grey.
Today, they remain where he lay.
