Loving Andrew Barker's slides about Lancaster Uni Library's vision, bursting with greenery that's part of their physical space #CILIPLeadership

Huge thanks to all presenters at CILIP's Skills for Leadership event. It has been an inspiring 2 days, exploring theories, career journeys, advice and projects. So much content to reflect upon. And thank you @leoappleton for your input into the programming. #CILIPLeadership
Very pleased to have been involved in Day 2 of the #cilipleadership conference - both speaker and delegate. It has been a welcoming and validating experience, especially for those of us not in formal positions of leadership. Thanks @CILIPEvents @leoappleton @JoCornish4
Absolutely pitch perfect keynote by @CamUniLibrarian at the #CILIPLeadership event. Navigating breadth of learning, hope, fallibility, pandemic impact, vulnerability, success, support and leadership. Fantastic.
#CILIPLeadership There is a pressure and expectation that leaders and managers are the people with all the answers, and often that pressure comes from ourselves. Be honest and realise that you can't take it all upon yourself. Ask for help.
Our final speaker for #CILIPLeadership is @CamUniLibrarian starts with a quote from Michelle Obama, recognising that we are continuously moving towards our better selves. As leaders, we keep reflecting and learning.
Who else is always nervous before their talk starts? Up in 10 minutes and taking some deep breaths. Thanks #CILIPLeadership and @CILIPEvents for the opportunity!
Our final keynote speaker for our Leadership event (28+29 Oct) will be @CamUniLibrarian. Her presentation will be "Always becoming: humility and hope through adaptive leadership". Such a fantastic line up to this event & there's still time to register: https://t.co/XAc60UBmxG

Tavian Hunter from Iniva is next at #CILIPLeadership. She argues that there need to be more inclusive paths to librarianship and attract people from marginalised and underrepresented communities. Tavian wanted to bring in a volunteer programme and needed to persuade management.
"Let the passion and talent of your staff shine through and amplify it!" says Susanna from Lambeth Libraries. #CILIPLeadership
Susanna Barnes from Lambeth Libraries is speaking next. "The need for good leadership in public libraries has never been more critical, but when senior roles become available, current library staff tend not to apply". Susanna delves into why. #CILIPLeadership
This sums up the importance and value of #infopro work, we: "shorten the distance between the question they have and an evidence based answer" - @TanyaLibrarian at the #CILIPLeadership event.
Library leaders often have to reconcile stakeholders with different demands/expectations - eg. users, funders and senior managers. Part of the role of the #infopro is to help these stakeholder groups understand each other #CILIPLeadership
"Don't be afraid to back yourself" - if senior managers push back, then don't crumble. If you're confident in your take and you have the evidence to back it up, press on and believe that you do know better than they do. Stick up for your & your team's knowledge! #CILIPleadership
Don't be afraid to deliver hard messages. Your stakeholder needs to hear about any problems. But do arrive with potential ways to solve the issue. #CILIPLeadership
Absolutely vital message from Sally Connor at #CILIPLeadership - don't be afraid to bring hard messages to senior decision-makers, but always come armed with potential solutions or approaches. MT @CILIPinfo
We've had a fascinating morning at #CILIPLeadership. Thank you to all of the speaker panel today and for sharing your advice and experience. And to Regina Everitt who has done a magnificent job of Chairing. Really looking forward to tomorrow.
@nhhoward is next, speaking about the NELFT Foundation Trust journey of ongoing systemic and cultural change. As you go further up the organisation it becomes "more white and male" and doesn't reflect the population. #CILIPLeadership
"Create the space within the organisation to have meaningful conversations. It takes thought to build in that time and create the communities of practice around particular problems" says Prof Beverley Hawkins. #CILIPLeadership
Shared leadership requires us to empower others rather than assume followers are recipients of the leader's expertise. Distribute the expertise across the many, open the boundaries and learn to let go of the "ego". #CILIPLeadership
