History as the badger returns...
The AC Locomotive Group and @LocoServicesGrp announced a partnership back in 2021 to bring the prototype electric locomotive, #Class89 89001' Avocet' back into mainline use. After a number of light testing moves, today saw the first fully loaded test run, where the 'badger' can stretch its legs on the WCML between Crewe and Tebay.
With #Class86 86101 'Sir William A Stanier FRS' in tow for security, Avocet departed Crewe with a rake of 6 matching MK3 coaches and DVT 82139 'My Lovely Horse'.

There's a badger on the loose...🦡
Prototype #Class89 locomotive, 89001 'Avocet' made its debut on the main line under its own power overnight, with a pair of test runs between Crewe and Stafford.
In December 2021, the AC Locomotive Group and @LocoServicesGrp announced a partnership that would see the restoration work completed and the locomotive returned to mainline use. Fast forward to Monday 29th September 2025 and the 'Badger' has taken the first steps under its own power on the main line.
Once complete, 89001 will operated with LSL for five years.
Partnered with #Class90 90001 'Royal Scot', 89001 completed the two return trips and was captured running around, between 0Z82 and 0Z83, by our Crewe cameras.
