Annual reminder of my biggest #clockerproblems pet peeve now that #KyDerby preps are done so it's just workouts til raceday:
If these horses ain't fit by now, they ain't ever gonna be. So we don't need to describe a work as "maintenance" because that's. all. they. should. be. ⏱️
@HPIbet @WoodbineTB @UlwellingRacing @kevin_attard Favorite question to ask ahead of a big race...
Who's the workmate?

2nd! And he was on @WoodbineClocker's report going well to boot ~ feels good when the gut is right! ⏱️ #clockerproblems
I'm always wary of talking about work patterns from trainers I don't know super well especially at @WoodbineTB so I'm sitting here biting my nails til @WoodbineClocker's report gets posted to the site ⏱️ #clockerproblems
This camera angle is so similar to what I see in my binoculars and it never gets old

Another great catch this morning at Churchill Downs - this time by outrider Lee Lockwood.
Both horse and rider are OK.
@WoodbineClocker Happy new year! Wishing you a season of trainers always calling ahead to tell ya who's breezing! ⏱️

Death. Taxes. WW 2yo workers in Feb.
It's nice that we can count on certain things to remain consistent no matter what year it is.
#clockerproblems
(and yes they'll all be 1-5 and still probably top pick on my sheet cuz we don't doubt WW baby gameplans in this house)
Just had our first 2yo workers of the season from the barn of, who else, Wesley Ward, the pair breaking from the gate like pros, the winner of set going 1/4 mile in 23.33 easing up 3F in 36.52. See ya at Keeneland opening day.
The clocker in me loves works like this: she's clearly having fun then you can see the exact second her mind goes from lalala to work mode ~ the best athletes do this ~ no idea if she wins next week but this is a beast of a competitor

VAHVA worked this morning at @keenelandracing for @reredevaux. The @BreedersCup Filly and Mare Sprint contender is a fan favorite!
I love a work that starts with the horse's thought bubble clearly screaming "we. are. going. so either gimme the rein or get lost bucko" and then she does *that* so easily... like... dayum girl chill and let Danny's arms stay in their sockets

NEW! We're excited to announce that Keeneland will present morning workout videos of horses training here as a benefit to horsemen and handicappers on https://t.co/E21ZlVmCJI. This sortable database – made possible by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund – will be updated daily. → https://t.co/RcecnEiQfa
I have clocked a gabillion McPeek workers over the years and this is textbook for his entire barn ~ he's always had some of the best riders in the game & there's always so much strategy behind the pairings and how they roll ~ definitely top 5 favorite barn to ⏱️ #clockerproblems
Work of the Day from #Saratoga—Thorpedo Anna (Outside) and Elko County worked 5 Furlongs in 59.81 on August 17th, 2024, for trainer @KennyMcPeek.
I know nuthin about this horse beyond the PPs, but I love the way her ears perk up and her nose dips down when she sees those two other horses... you can't teach that level of competitiveness

Oaks Fav, G1 Oka Sho winner 3f STELLENBOSCH (Epiphaneia) final fast ahead of the Oaks, worked the Miho circle chip.
A run through the gears basically, gorgeous footwork
Can she get the proper classic trip?
#HeroIsComing
Well she definitely wants to train ~ she even comes with sound effects

Way and Means cruising down the lane finishing a half mile in :46.20. #KyOaks
Clocking Derby & BC workers is fun... but not for why most think.
Yes it's crazy cool to see that much talent in one spot.
But it's really cuz you get to see & learn all the different styles: every horse & trainer & circuit & country has idiosyncrasies.

I love Japanese Derby worker day even more than Euros working around the dogs preBC day cuz it shows - some might say exposes - who thinks the only good drill is a fast one.
I believe all opinions are valid. But clocking is not just hitting buttons on a watch. #clockerproblems
As the #KyOaks/#KyDerby works videos start in earnest, now's a great time to remind everyone that works are subjective and all opinions are valid and absolutely trust your gut, but also the study of them is an art and a skill and not all experts are created equal

Back in my #clockerproblems days, there were a few barns I looked forward to seeing every morning not only for what the ponies would do but cuz the coordinated tack was a spectacular outfit... Demeritte is/was/always will be high on the list
West Saratoga (Exaggerator) with Jesus Castanon up working 5 fur. in 1:16.20 on a wet fast Keeneland track this morning. Trainer Larry Demeritte says the colt will have one more work before the Derby, and that'll be next Saturday at Churchill Downs.
Ok also the random Shirreffs in the back at the last second made me laugh a lil too hard
#clockerproblems
Watch this but focus on every pony instead of the racehorse they're with and it's a new level of joy... the difference in demeanor of every coach is my favorite reality show
#clockerproblems #BC23
As a clocker who would occasionally show up in pajamas, this is much more efficient!
