“The United States’ retreat as the world’s democratic superpower at a time of acrimony and uncertainty, combined with Trump’s strategic blunder in Iran, will have destructive effects on global peace and economic security for generations to come. The taxi driver who is not working right now in Bangladesh, and the fisherman in the Philippines who can’t afford fuel for his boat, will be passing missed opportunities onto their own children. That is how instability works, especially in the Global South where the line between survival and rising above poverty towards a better life is as thin and delicate as a spider’s web. We are casting off nations we are supposed to be helping develop, reneging on decades of investment and promises, while spitting in the face of the suffering. Our retreat on the world stage was caused by shattering USAID. This is about morality and idealism, and how we define ourselves as a people. That is what this election is about this midterm season. It is about clawing back those wasted years and beginning to hold the Trump regime accountable. I don’t just mean one man and his minions, but the whole MAGA mindset. It is an aberration from which we must recover, if we ever want to truly and honestly reclaim our place as a nation. That requires hard work. The reactionary forces that have already done so such damage to our public would much rather watch us implode. We must not allow that to happen, but instead roll up our sleeves and do the hard work of recovery. Humility is required to undergo a personality change, and at its essence that is fundamentally what is required to lead us out of this medieval morass.”https://t.co/mHN4yBNCit
