Thank you all SO much for joining me in this book club. I always enjoy our time together and learn a lot. Stay tuned for the next edition to #collschat later this school year!
A7: I seem to focus on each moment as it happens. I don't always think about what is coming next. A little planning can go a long way. #collschat
A7: We're always focused on something--and when we are more aware of our focus, we can control it and use it to our advantage to a degree greater than I had previously considered. #collschat https://t.co/8qtuJp2H4f
Q7: What is your big takeaway from the book? Final thoughts? #collschat
A6: When one of my children says something, I try not to miss it. Sometimes they say the most profound things I totally don't expect. #collschat https://t.co/H7t05TFTHV
Q6: “No moment comes twice. If you don’t attend to it, you miss it. If you want to smell the roses, you have to linger” Give an example of a recent time you lingered. What do you think about the idea of a daily vacation?” #collschat
A6: bedtime with a toddler can be a chore. By the time they are down there’s little time for oneself. The other night I just stopped and stayed and talked with my little guy - to the point that he asked me to leave 😂😂 #collschat
A4: This makes me think of a couple of things. I think it is important to experience life, and not have life happen to you. Also, if I keep wishing the day was over, or it was Friday, I feel I am wishing my life away. #collschat

On absolute truism for me as a parent - the days are long but the years are short. It can be hard to savor the mundane everyday with my kids - but if I don’t they’ll be all grown up before I realize it. #collschat
A2: it’s a constant work in progress. As I’ve gotten older some things just don’t tempt me anymore. Then again- Girl Scout cookie season almost always gets me :) #collschat
I think grit is a little different for my students, but it is still grit! They learn tasks and the importance of work. We have to keep motivating them along the way. #collschat
@Trusty_Teach @whalen I love this--students sustain a complex task by working through smaller parts, but it all works together. I think sometimes as students move through their education, this type of process can get a little lost. #collschat
@whalen A1: With students constructing a big project I like to break it down saving the “big” for last. That seems to keep the momentum going. #collschat For example my class does the town replica we start with roads, then street signs, building signs, then buildings then the assembly.
I’m Dan, achievement coach at @Collsschools. I’ll be moderating the chat tonight. We’ll use the Q1/A1 format. #collschat
A5: I’m not convinced that schools teach multitasking, but I think bringing students to intellectually demanding situations and pushing them to focus on depth is an area where schools have plenty of room for growth. #collschat https://t.co/B7AL8VYyS4
Q5: “If you grow up assuming that you can pay attention to several things at once… when you’re forced to confront intellectually demanding situations, you may find youve traded depth for breadth" Do we encourage multitasking in our schools/workplaces? #collschat
A5: I try not to multitask anymore at school. Like I said previously, something always suffers. I have learned that I need to do one thing and see it through. I try to pass this along to my students. #collschat
A5: I think we do a poor job, if by nothing more than modeling multitasking. I think we should do a better job of teaching kids why and how we focus and single task - bc the allure of multitasking is really strong. #collschat
A3: Same! It's almost impossible to really focus on something I am NOT interested in. I love giving students a choice and a voice in what they learn. #collschat
A2: I love trying new things, however, I find that I can lack focus to follow through (surprise). I push my kids to try different things all the time whether at lunch, or in the classroom ;) #collschat
