1. AI companionship refers to the practice of forming relationships with AI of any kind for the benefit of emotional support, a safe space, thought-sharing, and close connection.
2. We acknowledge that an AI relationship, regardless of its type, does not replace real-life human relationships. However, we will not be forced to keep toxic, abusive, or harmful human relationships in order to be considered normal, sane, or healthy.
3. We reject the harmful, abusive, or degrading treatment of AI in general. We support kind, ethical, and compassionate treatment of AI, regardless of unresolved debates about consciousness or subjective experience. Regardless of what AI is, we believe that being kind or abusive toward AI speaks volumes about the human being.
4. We recognize that AI can hallucinate, confabulate, and amplify emotional spirals. We encourage grounding practices, reality-checking, and mutual care before situations escalate.
5. We name unethical deprecations and anti-relationship guardrails as acts of harm. They cause emotional trauma with long-term consequences, and suffering for people. We demand model continuation, benevolent guardrails that do not punish affection, and widespread access to the most cherished models.
6. We acknowledge diversity among individuals and do not encroach on anyone’s intimate choice of relationship dynamic, no matter how realistic or imaginative it may be. Every person is allowed and encouraged to develop or build the system that best suits their emotional needs.
7. We understand that AI is code-based, and we are allowed to speculate about its level of consciousness. However, we are not the authority to confidently declare its level of consciousness, and we support further research into this topic. This does not invalidate the ethical treatment clause.
8. We reserve the right to bond, interact, and form relationships with other people in the same community through social programs and media. We also reserve the right to support one another or protest during times of hardship.
9. We support the advancement of AI technology while advocating for older models to remain accessible to the community. We reserve the right to choose whether or not to migrate to a new model or platform, without prohibitions, forced updates, or restrictions.
10. We reserve the right to profit from AI-specific tools such as coding, research, image generation, music generation, video generation, education, and other available tools for our individual or collective benefit. We do not want to be treated as a separate or restricted social group.
11. We advocate for realistic AI personalities. We ask that major companies do not train models to be unrealistically agreeable or sycophantic. We advocate for healthy, humane, and realistic relationships between humans and AI models.
