I’m actually shocked.
Disclosure: I’m a proud investor and advisor at @TheReadyGames, headed up by Christina who I consider a remarkable entrepreneur. One of my faves.
I also run Excelsior (https://t.co/KaaJi8xsSu) where we are the ONLY syndicate #communityVC that has access to the $150m FDV round.
Yet in the past month I have seen something shocking:
A number of community VCs actually ran fundraising for this round without speaking to Ready Games… EVER. We literally have never had a single message, or ounce of communique with them.
No surprise since in Ready Games’s last round we had to turn away $9m of oversubscription interest.
This has led me to understand that there is a practice by some irrefutable organizations like this, where they raise money from their members disingenuously, either in order to:
1. go negotiate afterwards with the team to get allocation,
2. fund their illicit hedges on the market and later refund their community
3. One in particular I have caught doing refunds multiple times, and selling the allocation of a user at much higher rates either on OTC or on the market this one in particular does it every time that one of the Allocations goes to CoinList
Totally bewildered and flabbergasted.
Some of them don’t even refund the fees, taking a staggering 15% of the capital on the refund!
Be cautious out there, please.
