#SiteOfTheWeek The most striking feature of #Crossmichael Parish Church is its tall round tower. While the church itself was rebuilt in 1751, the tower is actually earlier - dating from the late 1500s to the mid-1600s. No surprise the church is an A-Listed Building then!

#SiteOfTheWeek You might not have realised that the man who inspired J. M. Barrie's character, Captain Hook, is buried in #Crossmichael churchyard! Sailor John Tait had a hook fitted in place of a hand after losing it in a rigging accident on a boat at Palnackie 😲

#SiteOfTheWeek Found near Spearford Bridge, #Crossmichael, this looped spearhead is only slightly damaged with one loop broken & the tip missing. Not bad considering it's believed to date to the Middle Bronze Age, making it roughly between 3,000 & 3,500 years old.

#SiteOfTheWeek Sitting between #Crossmichael & #CastleDouglas, Crofts Mote is actually an Iron Age hillfort. To what extent the forts of the Iron Age were defensive is often debateable - it's possible that some were more about showing off... If so, it worked! #LoveDandG
