Que causa la enfermedad del cacao en Africa:
La Enfermedad del Brotes Hinchados del Cacao (EBHC) o en ingles (Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus #CSSV) representa una amenaza significativa para la producción de #cacao, afectando principalmente a los países de África Occidental, una región responsable de la mayoría del suministro mundial de cacao. La enfermedad es causada por el Virus del Brotes Hinchados del Cacao (VBHC), que pertenece al género Badnavirus y es transmitido por especies de cochinillas que se alimentan de la savia de los árboles de cacao.
Síntomas:
La enfermedad se manifiesta a través de una variedad de síntomas, que pueden variar dependiendo de la cepa del virus y la variedad de cacao. Los síntomas comunes incluyen:
-Hinchazón de los brotes y raíces
-Amarillamiento y moteado de las hojas
-Crecimiento distorsionado de las hojas
-Reducción del tamaño y número de mazorcas
-Caída prematura de frutas y flores
-Eventualmente, la muerte del árbol si no se trata
❗️No hay cura para la EBHC una vez que un árbol está infectado, haciendo que las estrategias de prevención y manejo sean críticas.
