State Rep. Tim Ackert (R-Coventry) officially announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination for Lieutenant Governor at a press conference today alongside GOP Candidate for Governor Erin Stewart. Ackert faces Republican Matthew Corey, who is not aligned with any candidate for Governor. Corey has nearly a year-long head start, and has endorsements from the GOP caucus minority leaders in the State House and State Senate. In Connecticut, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor are separately nominated and face separate primaries to determine a general election ticket. So it is possible, a Lt Gov candidate not aligned with a Governor ticket become part of the general election ticket.
