Posing as locals, they started seizing state administration buildings, raising Russian flags and demanding to join Russia. It was the Crimean scenario repeating itself, just with a delay of several weeks. Seeing this, city residents started organizing pro-Ukrainian protests. These rallies were held under calls for peace, Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and demands that Russia not interfere in our internal affairs. On March 5, Donetsk residents organized a massive rally in support of Ukraine in just one day. Thousands gathered, chanting "Putin go away" (a direct greeting to Russian propaganda that claims Donbas was calling for Putin) and "Rostov, go home!" - right at the Russian "tourists" who had come to occupy our land.
