Rhaegar Targaryen. Heir of the Mad King and elder brother of Viserys and Daenerys, he kicked the previous civil war off by abducting/running away with Lyanna Stark. Fought valiantly. Fought nobly. Fought honourably. Died. #cupofthrones
Gerris Drinkwater. You don't know who Gerris Drinkwater is. We barely know who Gerris Drinkwater is. He's a Dornishman who spends the fifth book on a quest to Meereen with a minor Martell, which is somehow enough to get him onto this list. #cupofthrones
Benjen Stark: Ned's easygoing brother, he begins the story as First Ranger of the Night's Watch before disappearing mysteriously north of the Wall. Given that he's essentially an uncle called Ben he should have known the risks he was running. #cupofthrones
Brienne! The Maid of Tarth is possibly the most morally decent person in the whole series, which rarely helps her. Incredibly loyal and devoted to chivalric ideals, she's a woman desperate to be a knight in a world which doesn't seem inclined to co-operate. #cupofthrones
It's Group 9 pf the #cupofthrones! Again, we're not totally sure how to characterise this group, which introduces our fifth seeded character. Brienne - who really wouldn't want the Iron Throne at all - will be hoping to emulate Jaime, Ned and Daenerys rather than Cersei.
Asha Greyjoy. Theon's sister was renamed Yara for the series, presumably because they thought that Theon interacting with Osha and Asha in the same plotline would confuse people. The nicest Greyjoy, which is not a hotly contested position. #cupofthrones
