Important to remember how badly #RSF have “governed” the cities and towns controlled/captured—how poorly security is maintained, how rampant crime is (including extortion), and how freely this genocidal militia attacks medical personnel and facilities. Ed #Daein is hardly unique:
El #Fasher, #Nyala, El #Geneina, #Zalingei…again and again, the RSF prove they are not interested in civilian governance, or indeed any governance. They are a rapacious, mercenary militia that can control parts of #Sudan only through the deployment of brutal, cruel force. They will never be accepted by the people of Sudan, and “succeed” only insofar as they continue to be supported by the #UAE.
This support is complicity in #genocide—and yet those international actors with the power to call out the #Emiratis/bin #Zayed continue their shameless silence.

The city of Al- #Daein in East #Darfur State witnessed a serious escalation in military operations within civilian areas, resulting in a large number of civilian casualties and the destruction of vital infrastructure, including healthcare facilities and public markets, which led to a sharp deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
Background
These events followed the announcement by the #US designating the #MuslimBrotherhood in #Sudan as a terrorist organization, after which demonstrations took place in the city of Al-Daein, where citizens expressed support for this decision.
Incident Details
On the day following the demonstrations, Al-Daein Hospital was subjected to an airstrike attributed to the #Sudanese Armed Forces’ air force, leading to its complete destruction. The attack resulted in the killing of 83 civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, in addition to injuring a number of other civilians.
On the following day, the city’s market was bombed, causing widespread material damage, including the destruction of private property and sources of livelihood for a large number of residents, which further aggravated the living conditions.
Humanitarian Impact
The destruction of the hospital deprived residents of essential healthcare services, particularly in light of injuries caused by the bombardment. The targeting of the market also led to many families losing their sources of income, in addition to worsening internal displacement and shortages of basic needs.
Preliminary Assessment
The nature of the attacks indicates severe damage to civilians and civilian infrastructure, raising concerns regarding compliance with the rules of international humanitarian law, particularly with respect to the protection of civilians and medical facilities.

Not fully clear who is responsible for the attack on Ed #Daein, but this is less important than other news conveyed by #Dabanga: “[WHO has] confirmed that more than 2,000 people have now been killed in 213 attacks on health facilities since the war began in April 2023.”
The #UAE has been the catalyst for drone warfare in #Sudan, and in fully supplying the #RSF the Emiratis are complicit in the many confirmed RSF drone attacks on civilians. To be sure, the SAF has also been responsible for numerous barbaric attacks. But only the RSF has attacked humanitarian convoys with drones—and most revealingly, the RSF has demonstrated an incomprehensible hostility to medical and health facilities/personnel.
The most compelling evidence of this barbaric animus was the assault on Saudi Hospital in El Fasher (October 2025):
CAIRO (AP) — Sudan’s paramilitary forces [RSF] killed hundreds of people at a hospital, including patients, after they seized the provincial capital of North Darfur over the weekend, according to the U.N., displaced residents and aid workers, who described harrowing details of the atrocities.
The 460 patients and their companions were reportedly killed Tuesday at Saudi Hospital by fighters from the Rapid Support Forces in the city of el-Fasher, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization.
Such attacks—at close range with the victims clearly civilian medical personnel—tell us something deeply important about the RSF and its conduct of war.

This fighting is extremely concerning for many reasons, including heightening risk for humanitarian resources moving from Port Sudan to #Darfur. Notably, El #Daein is the historical capital of the #Rizeigat tribe, which has been the backbone of the #RSF and #Janjaweed.
