To the various Irish people in positions of influence and policy shaping/making. I have a suggestion. Rather than making an effort to be seen to join in the pile on re the current U.S. Administration, X, and so on, keep in mind that Ireland has a long term interest in being one solid end of the Atlantic bridge. It has served us well and indeed is a key reason why modern Ireland came into being as an independent state. We are supposed to be the ‘America whisperers’ because we are and have been the most American of the Europeans (sorry Brits, Italians and Poles but it’s true). As the ebb and flow of politics takes its course, there will never be a shortage of scolds to tell this or that American administration what they are doing wrong or could do better. Ireland joining the public scolds isn’t in Ireland’s interests, nor in Europe’s interest.
