To ensure that kids are involved with authentic problems, do a quick check: Does the problem reference space aliens? Talking animals? Cartoon characters? Then it's not genuine. It may be fun but avoid going in that direction.

A great question for students- "What do you need? What do I need?"- co-negotiated. Check-ins that do not interrupt the flow or steer students, but allow time for thoughtful questioning and reflecting can go a long way! #definedstemchat

A3- My favorite method of testing the authenticity of a problem is finding a worthy audience- if I cannot find one, perhaps the problem is not complex enough to support a full #PBL and could fit into a smaller single day inquiry. #DefinedSTEMchat
