Edge‑to‑cloud computing, AI‑driven workflows, and distributed systems require platforms that can seamlessly bridge research innovation with production‑grade capabilities. The Europen project @ICOS_Horizon set out to address this challenge by designing an open, modular, and programmable continuum infrastructure capable of orchestrating heterogeneous resources across cloud, edge, and IoT environments.
Building on this foundation, Eviden has developed EdgeHarbor, a robust, scalable, and secure cloud to edge orchestration platform that can be deployed in real‑world environments, enabling organizations to manage distributed workloads, integrate AI at the edge, and operate complex multi‑site infrastructures with production‑level reliability.

A concept that emerged from the #HiPEACVision, the next computing paradigm takes as its starting point the concept that everything can be considered as a service, both hardware capabilities and software, and that applications are built as dynamic collections of services that can adapt to user needs in real time. They are orchestrated by an intelligent system which selects the services from specific requirements, including non-functional requirements such as time, locality, etc. It is by nature distributed and federated and the services can migrate from cloud to edge depending on the requirements.

Find out how Germán visited Kate Keahey's group at Argonne and integrated @ChameleonCloud as a cloud backend to the Infrastructure Manager developed at @UPV. The team then deployed transatlantic virtualized computing infrastructures across the OpenStack-based clouds provided by Chameleon and the European Grid Initiative (EGI). This transatlantic testbed was then used to support a use case on distributed AI-based fish detection from the EU-funded iMagine project, which you might have caught at #EGI2025 yesterday.
