UCSB's first fully online master's degree launches in Fall 2027.🎓
The Master of Engineering and Technology Leadership (METL) covers semiconductors, quantum computing, AI/ML, and tech management with CS faculty @WenboGuo4, B.S. Manjunath, Murphy Yuezhen Niu, and Ambuj Singh.
UCSB's @dahlia_malkhi elected Fellow of the CBER Forum, joining blockchain scholars from Princeton, MIT, Stanford, and Duke as one of the few computer scientists in the cohort! She'll present "Byzantine Consensus in the Lens of Blockchains" at their annual conference on June 4.
Big congratulations to our 2026 Academic Senate award recipients! 🎉
We’re proud to celebrate their impact on teaching, mentorship, and student success at UCSB CS 💙💛

Our paper “Learning Situated Awareness in the Real World” has been accepted to #ICML2026 as a Spotlight (top 2.2%)! Congrats to @_Chuhan_Li and the team!
We introduce SAW-Bench, a real-world egocentric benchmark for evaluating situated (first-person) spatial reasoning in multimodal models, uncovering a large gap between humans and current systems. All videos recorded via Meta Ray-Ban 2 glasses!
The next installment of our AI Foundations & Frontiers Series challenges us to rethink how humans and AI collaborate in Spatial Human–AI Interaction 💡
Join April 29, 3:30–4:30 PM, in HFH 1132 or on Zoom.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Long Now Talk at The Interval with mathematician and machine learning researcher @ninamiolane and science historian @claire_i_webb. They explored the question of consciousness from an unexpected direction: geometry.
Geometry is the most ancient branch of physics, Miolane said. It’s the language we use to describe the curvature of spacetime and the general relativity of the universe. Might it also map the universe inside us?
Stay tuned, the full Talk will be released on YouTube next week. Huge thanks to our partners @berggruenInst@NoemaMag for a magical evening.
