#Kwiyenza2.0 #DJSonia #SexShaming: #Men vs. #Women
I forgot to add:
According to our young researchers cited by @IGIHE, male frequent ejaculation may be associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer later in life.
Some studies have reported an association between higher ejaculation frequency and lower prostate cancer risk, although this does not mean men medically “need” to have sex 23 times a month.
Now, if men—especially single young men—keep sex-shaming women for being sexually active or liberated, who exactly do you expect to date/ mate you?
Women are increasingly making their own choices about their sexuality.
“Abagore b’uyu munsi bari kwibohora cyangwa baribohoye mu mibonano. Ubu ntacyo waza ubabeshya.”
Men, you have to be smart about it. If you keep sex-shaming every woman you meet, do not be surprised when women avoid you altogether.
You cannot disrespect women for making their own choices and, at the same time, complain that they do not want anything to do with you Rwandan men.

#Kwiyenza #Animosity in #RwandaShwobiz Vs #PoliticalAnalogy #djsonia
Allow me to use a political analogy to explain what may be happening in Rwanda’s music and showbiz industry.
I see it from three angles:
1. The chicken-and-egg problem of who came first or who started the conflict
2. The need for established players to stay at the top
3. The belief that if newcomers enter the industry, there will not be enough opportunities for everyone (Scarcity mindset).
Every industry has gatekeepers.
Look at politics. Established politicians, political parties, and sometimes informal power brokers can influence who gets opportunities and who does not. These are the people we believe we must please, flatter, or even “lick their boots” to smoothen our way to the top, despite having formal policies in place that even prohibit that.
The difference is that politics usually has formal rules. There are laws and procedures explaining how someone can enter politics, run for office, join a political party, or participate in elections.
In Rwanda’s showbiz industry, many of those structures are still developing. Much of the creative industry remains informal. As a result, gatekeepers—and sometimes wannabe gatekeepers—emerge and try to decide who belongs, who gets opportunities, and who should remain outside.
Sometimes, they even try to use their connections through the ruling party to enforce themselves as such gatekeepers in creative industries.
You will see artists starting to call each other enemies of the country on social media, due to some 100k bonus gig they did not understand how to share at some local bars the previous night.
What many gatekeepers fail to understand is that every generation and every new wave of music, film, art, or entertainment comes with hungry underdogs who want their chance.
Gatekeepers may try to keep a leash on who enters the industry because they want to protect their influence, opportunities, and income.
At the same time, underdogs can also become extremely hungry for success. Some are willing to play dirty, flatter powerful people, and “eat shit” until they get a seat at the high table. Others are rebellious and confront the system directly.
Artists, by nature, often challenge conventions. They do not like being forced into boxes.
As Africans, we need to move beyond the scarcity mindset of seeing newcomers as people coming to take away our bread.
See them as people who will challenge you to bake better bread to stay relevant.
I heard about the DJ Sonia case. I do not know all the facts, so I will not pretend to judge the situation. But I am sure there are people who want to position themselves as gatekeepers of Rwanda’s DJ scene and decide who deserves to rise and who should stay down.
She is a triple threat, though. With her beauty and all, some may use it against her, forgetting she may be a real good DJ.
I have not been to a bar or club in a long time to listen to her mixes, so I cannot judge her DJ skills. Maybe I would understand the dynamics better if I were a female DJ myself.
But the bigger point remains.
May the gatekeepers of Rwanda’s showbiz, arts, and entertainment industries create room for newcomers to thrive safely and with dignity—not only for those willing to lick the boots of the people who came first.
Give newcomers space to grow.
Let them compete.
Let them challenge you.
Give people the dignity of pursuing what they love and what they feel called to do.
Newcomers are not always coming to take your bread.
Sometimes, they influence the entire industry to build a bigger and better bakery.
