#DropsOf #Kotiln: Suspending functions rewriting enables coroutines to work 🪄. At a suspension point, the continuation object is checked to understand if it's possible to go further or not. The state of the execution is stored in the continuation. https://t.co/ujBl1n3Xv4

#DropsOf #Kotlin: Kotlin was the first language on the JVM implementing continuation passing style (CSP) directly in the compiler 🚄. It rewrites every suspending function using CSP, adding a `Continuation` object to the parameters and rewriting the body accordingly 🪄

#DropsOf #Java: Checked exceptions were a good idea ✨. They are some form of an effect system. Through checked exceptions, you know exactly what kind of effects a function performs. If it throws an IOException, it uses some IO effect. To eliminate the effect in the function signature, you need to handle it, and the compiler forces this behavior. That's precisely what we expect from functions. The problems came with Java 8: Checked exceptions don't compose with lambdas🤷‍♂️

#DropsOf #kotlin: Do you know you can implement the race primitive 🚗 for coroutines in just one line of code? The `channelFlow` has its coroutineScope, and when the `first` function cancels the Flow execution, it cancels all the running coroutines that did not win the race. 😍
