Despite the recent gains, all three indexes had lost ground throughout August, with the S&P 500 shedding 3.4% and the Nasdaq and Dow slipping 4.5% and 2.6%, respectively. In the tech sector, companies like Meta and Apple traded slightly higher, while Nvidia added 2%. Tesla's shares were trading near the flatline. The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) was noted as the second-worst performing sector among 11 groups, trailing only utilities. Outside of tech, shares of 3M popped 5% following a Bloomberg News report that the company was ready to settle lawsuits alleging faulty earplugs. Energy, industrial, and real estate were the best-performing S&P 500 sectors for the day.
