One of our PhD students onboard, @Jl_gargar, just posted a new entry on the #eIMPACT blog to explain what eddies are and how they get formed south of the Canary Islands.
He is the most excited about eddies as it is the central theme of his thesis!

They are now completing the biogeochemical transect that crosses the Bentayga eddie to collect samples to get a deep understanding of this mesoscale structure.
They are working non stop launching rossettes and marine snow catchers everyday!
