The purpose of submission guidelines is not to annoy authors.
At @AnnTourRes we regularly give authors the opportunity to revise their submission to comply with the guidelines. Often they resubmit another non-compliant version, causing unnecessary delays.

Nothing is as boring as a "loveless" literature review
A literature review should be exciting
It should present the state of the art discussion on a topic; point to key findings; outline disagreements ... & then explain how the present study contributes

As researchers we are excited about every little detailed finding of our work
But discussing every little detail & providing a figure/table about it overwhelms reviewers/readers
Better to focus on the key finding & offer one excellent figure to illustrate it

And sometimes invitations just come at the worst possible time.

Show respect for the journal you are submitting to:
-Eradicate typos
-Engage genuinely w relevant literature
-Engage genuinely w work published in the journal
-Comply w submission guidelines
-Address cover letter to correct editorπ

I had a new & very unpleasant editor experience just recently. An author had been scammed to pay an #openaccess free, pretending their paper had been accepted for publication in @AnnTourRes.

That keeps us pretty busy on top of our day jobs.
And increasingly we are also expected to identify & police research ethics compliance.
No time left to argue with authors.

@AnnTourRes has teamed up with JTR+TM in not permitting re-submission of papers previously rejected on the grounds of ethics
It won't fix everything, but it signals clearly that breaching research ethics is unacceptable
