2/2 100% of my fat clients have experienced some form weight-stigma & discrimination from mental health / health professionals. This includes being given diet & weight loss tips. *If you cringed at the word fat, you might hold some weight stigma #EDtruths #eatingdisorders

1/2 60% of my current caseload has had previous experience of weight-based rejection from medical professionals when they have reached out for support w disordered eating. This only reflects the clients who have shared these experiences with me. #EDtruths #eatingdisorders

Keel & Forney (2013) illustrated that internalisation of thin-ideal and related weight concerns are key psychosocial risk factors for adolescent eating disorders. Peer-based, weight neutral, self-esteem building interventions are key to prevention. #EDtruths #eatingdisorders

People with eating disorders don’t resist treatment because they don’t want to recover. In my experience their resistance is a reflection of their fear. Their fear of letting go of the coping strategies that have kept them afloat for so long. #EDtruths #eatingdisorders
