Today I learned that if you take away numbers from a word problem, students can still ask mathematical questions in order to determine what they are solving for. This then pushes students outside of their boundaries and encourages them to think outside the box. #EDUC406

In #EDUC406 today, I learned that any type of math concept can be opened up to allow students to use a higher cognitive demand. By using their higher cognitive demand, the students can explore a problem and think about it before learning the concept. #UDSOE #UDCEHD

Removing numbers and reducing scaffolding from word problems will help students better understand the task at hand! They can determine what info is needed and think logically before jumping into solving! #iteachmath #mtbos #EDUC406 @UDCEHD

#EDUC406 @UDSOE One thing I learned today was how to look at a task and determine whether it has a low-level cognitive demand or a high-level cognitive demand. I was quick to look at the task and make my determination immediately, but then I learned to really analyze it first.

What I want to work on during this week is using the "turn and talk strategy" when students are stuck #EDUC406

This week, I plan on incorporating both reasoning and adding on talk moves so that my students can build off each other's thinking. #EDUC406

Discussing 3-Act Math in #EDUC406 got me thinking about fun ways to incorporate higher level tasks in my student teaching placement!
