You’re out here calling a beloved Dutch tradition “harmful” and encouraging parents to raise their 4-year-old as a miniature fun-ruiner who goes around telling his classmates their culture is racist. And then you drop this condescending little bomb: “No one is entitled to be racist in peace.” The arrogance is breathtaking. A holiday that millions of Dutch people grew up with, that has been evolving for years, suddenly needs your righteous American intervention. Maybe instead of telling people how to raise their kids in their country, you could suggest to show a little respect for the culture someone chose to live in. And to the original letter writer (“Not the White Christmas I Had in Mind”): if you hate the local traditions so much that you’re this triggered by Sinterklaas, you’re more than welcome to pack up and go back where you came from.
